Originally built in the 1950s as a sprawling strip mall surrounded by large parking lots, Cambrian Park Plaza was innovative for its time and served as the hub of the area for decades. The 70+ year old site has declined over the years, is under-developed and no longer meets modern community needs or desires.
For more than six years, we worked hand-in-hand with the community and the City to create a unique village plan for Cambrian that provides much needed housing (including for seniors), four acres of public open space for community gathering, and a new community plaza and commercial center for neighbors to enjoy for generations to come.
The San Jose City Council voted unanimously in August 2022 to approve the annexation of the property into the city limits, which became final October 7, 2022. The annexation and approval of the Cambrian Village plan represents the re-imagining of this 18-acre site to once again become the heart of Cambrian, and a vibrant contributor to the local community.
WELCOME TO CAMBRIAN VILLAGE
Our community-developed village plan is designed for people – not cars – with walking promenades connecting acres of public open space, including a central park with an amphitheater and an adjacent community plaza surrounded by small shops, restaurants, and outdoor seating. The plan features a variety of housing opportunities including small apartments over shops, townhomes, and single-family houses with granny units. Our community spaces include four additional dedicated areas for a playground, fitness, dogs, and community gardening. Senior assisted living and a hotel front the central park and are connected to the plaza with a new pedestrian-friendly “Main Street,” providing access to ample underground parking for the mix of uses. Cambrian Village will return vibrancy to this site and once again become the heart of the community.
